Komazawa University won a dramatic come-from-behind victory in the Hakone Ekiden, and while the excitement did not cool down, a letter from Izu about cherry blossoms.  It was a day when I could feel the beginning of the year and the arrival of spring.  The scenery of the year-end and New Year holidays has changed completely recently, but this year the change is unusual due to the influence of the coronavirus.  The number of first-time visitors to shrines and temples has dropped sharply, and the disappointment of nearby shops has been reported.  Meanwhile, Kawazu cherry blossoms have begun to bloom here and there.  Even though the winter production is yet to come, it’s really quick.  It is said that it is difficult to predict the flowering of Kawazu cherry blossoms until just before, but it seems that the flowering time from the beginning of February to the beginning of March will be earlier than usual.  We hope that Kawazu cherry blossoms, which have both the large flowers derived from Oshima cherry tree and the purple-red petal color derived from Kanhi cherry tree, will make everyone feel better.
