“Bimajo” is a Japanese coined word created by a magazine company, and it means a woman with ageless beauty. That is, it refers to a woman who has a beauty that has emerged from the inside that has been polished through accumulated experience. “Uba-zakura” also refers to an old cherry tree with the same meaning.

美魔女（びまじょ）は、2008年に光文社が発行するファッション雑誌に載って、瞬く内に広がった造語です。「年齢という言葉が無意味なほどの輝いた容姿」「経験を積み重ねて磨かれた内面の美しさ」「いつまでも美を追求し続ける好奇心と向上心」「美しさが自己満足にならない社交性」という条件を備えた”エイジレスビューティー”な女性を指している言葉だそうです。

姥桜(うばざくら)も同様な意味合いに使われる言葉ですが、元は、葉が出るより先に花が開く桜の通称で、ヒガンザクラ・ウバヒガンなどのことをさします。

今日、2月11日は「建国記念の日」日です。1872年（明治5年）に「紀元節」として制定され、第二次世界大戦後の1948年に、GHQが日本の文化から国家神道を徹底的に排除しようとする過程で廃止されました。その後、紀元節復活の動きが高まり、その命名法ですったもんだの末、1966年に制定されたのが「建国記念の日」です。当初は「建国記念日」が発案されましたが、「の」を入れることで妥協した曰く付きの祝日です。

つくばい（蹲踞、蹲）とは、茶室に入る前に、手を清めるために置かれた背の低い手水鉢に投石をおいて趣を加えたもで、手水で手を洗うとき「つくばう（しゃがむ）」ことからその名がきました。「そんきよ」とも読み、相撲や剣道で屈んで座る姿勢のことを指します。

最近になって50日遅れの初雪情報がちらほら届き始めました。梅が咲き、桜が咲き、菜の花まで咲いています。そういえばまだ雛祭りも終わっていません。漁港でも網の手入れも早めに終え出漁を待つだけです。

今年は恵方巻も注文生産が増えているようです。今まではその日の最後まで食品棚を満杯にしておくのが当たり前だった百貨店をはじめ多くの店もこの悪習に気付き始めたようです。
