The English name is “dollar plant”, so it has a common meaning.Japanese gardeners may have given the Japanese name inspired by the English name. In any case, it is popular as an auspicious plant. 元々は「縁紅弁慶草」または「花月」と呼ばれていました。英名の「Dollar Plant」または「Money Tree」にヒントを得た日本の園芸業者が「金のなる木」と名付け、５円玉を付けたりして売り出しところ、縁起がいい植物だと言うことで瞬く間にその名が知れ渡り、今では正式名になっています。多肉植物でサボテンの一種だと思っている人もいます。その名とは関係なしに、春先の今頃、可憐な花を咲かせます。

「コロナ恐慌」と呼ばれる株価の大暴落である。日経平均株価が３万８９１５円の史上最高値を付けた１９８９年（平成元年）の大納会から３０年。元号が改まった令和元年の２０１９年は、２万３６５６円（３０日終値）で１年の取引を終えた日経平均はバブル崩壊、リーマン・ショックを乗り越え、ピークの６割の水準まで回復したが、ここにきて一気に１万７０００円割れ、このままいけば、最悪の事態も想定しておく必要があるのかもしれない。例えば、１９２９年の世界大恐慌や日本を襲った昭和恐慌に匹敵するような景気後退が起こらないとも限らない事態である。

今から丁度１００年前の１９２０年３月１５日、日本は「戦後大恐慌」に見舞われた。この時は株価が1/2から1/3になったといわれている。第一次世界大戦による特需景気の反動だったわけで、これは日本一国。アメリカは史上最高の景気に沸いていた。

世界規模の大恐慌は、１９２９年の「ウォール街大暴落」、１９８７年の「ブラックマンデー」、２００８年のサブプライムローンに端を発した「リーマン・ショック」と歴史を重ねてきたが、今回の「コロナ恐慌」はそれらを上回る大恐慌に発展しかねない様相を呈している。

そうならないように、自覚を新たににして、我々は対処しなければならない。

一説には、サンドイッチの生みの親だと言われているイギリスのサンドイッチ男爵の誕生日だからと言うのもありますが、これもどれほどの根拠があるのか？。

まあ、どちらでもいいです。近くのサンドイッチ・モーニングは大好きです。

コロナウイルスに依る肺炎がますます広がっています。最も原始的な生物と最も高等な生物の戦いです。ウイルスは人類の永遠の宿敵です。環境を破壊し、人類同志がいがみあったり、貧富の差を拡大する限り、ウイルスには勝てません。自然は、神は、今人類に警告する為にウイルスを送り込んでいます。

In the daytime, I went for a walk along with sunbathing. As walking, I gradually felt warm and began to sweat. Dandelions were blooming just beside the road. I felt close to the dandelion that I didn’t usually care about and sat down next to it. I felt very relaxed.

朝晩はまだ寒いですが、日中はほかほか陽気です。ビタミンD補充の為、最近はもっぱら日中散歩です。しばらく歩いていると汗ばんできます。散歩の途中、周りの草花が気に掛かり、スマホで写真をとります。今日はたんぽぽが目に止まりました。普段は見慣れているせいか、余り気に止まらないのですが、今日は特に親近感を覚えました。

木蓮が天に向かって花開こうとしています。木蓮と言えば普通この紫木蓮を指し、真っ白いのは特に白木蓮と言います。木蓮には、紫木蓮、白木蓮、その二つを掛け合わせた更木蓮の３種類があります。白木蓮に似た花にコブシがあって、これは純日本産です。見分けが付き難く、よく混同されます。何れも皆良い香りを放ち、春の先駆けになる花です。
