Portulaca, whose Japanese name is Hanasuberihiyu, continues to bloom throughout the summer without withering even in the hot summer. It is widely used as a standard summer flowerbed without any care. It is said that it came into Japan from Germany in 1983, and it spread all at once with the 1990 Osaka Flower Expo. It is the same group as Suberihiyu that can be seen in the weeds of the field. The members of Suberihiyu family have a high nutritional value and are used in foodstuffs. Among them, it contains a lot of “omega-3 fatty acids” (DHA, EPA) often found in supplement advertisements.
