Happy new year.  It’s the morning of 2021.  It’s cold.  The temperature is 3 °.  The speed of the passage of time is just amazing.  I have lived in Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa 3 years, along with the postwar history of Japan.  I think this change can only be felt by people of the same generation.  And now, the world is in the midst of “World War III” against the new coronavirus.  The death toll worldwide exceeds 1.8 million, of which the tolls of the United States, the deadliest, exceeds 300,000, and the Business Insider reports “The death toll from the coronavirus is higher than the total number of Americans killed in World War II, the bloodiest in human history”.  Recognizing that we are in the midst of an unrealistic war where missiles and shells do not fly, each person is required to be prepared to become a warrior.

明けましておめでとうございます。2021年の朝です。寒いです。気温３°。歳月の流れの速さにただただ驚くばかりです。昭和、平成そして令和３年と、日本の戦後史とともに生きてきたわけです。この変わり様は同世代の人にしか実感できないと思います。そして今、世界は新型コロナウイルスを敵にした「第三次世界大戦」の真っ只中です。全世界の死亡者数は180万人を超え、その内最も死亡者数の多いアメリカでは死者数が30万人を超え、「人類史上最も血を流した第二次世界大戦で戦死したアメリカ人の総数よりも多い」とビジネス・インサイダーが報じています。ミサイルや砲弾が飛び交わない非現実的な戦争の真っ只中にあることを自覚して、一人一人が戦士になる覚悟が求められています。
