Since the influence of the Baiu front remains in the northern part of Kinki, the declaration of the end of the rainy season has not yet been issued in the Kinki region, but the southern part of Kinki is already over.  The strong sunlight of summer from morning shines, and the voice of cicadas can be heard actively from the roadside trees.  I heard a faint sound of a wind chime, so I followed it and found a Japanese sweets shop with a bamboo blind.  There are a few seats when I enter the shop.  I was tired from walking, so I decided to take a rest.  There are many Japanese sweets on the display stand.  There are some rare Japanese sweets, but I ordered my favorite classic “Cold Zenzai”.  When I sit down relaxedly on a table made of natural wood, the wind chimes I mentioned earlier are swaying in the wind blowing from the bamboo blinds and ringing like cooler.  Even though the shop doesn’t have air conditioning, it’s really nice and cool.  While eating the cold and sweet Zenzai, I thought of my ancestors who had gotten through and enjoyed the hot summer since ancient times.  On the way home, when I pick up a Japanese sweet that imitates a hydrangea, my heart will come to be a buoyant mood.

近畿北部には梅雨前線の影響が残るため、近畿地方にはまだ梅雨明け宣言は出されていませんが、近畿南部はもう梅雨明けです。朝から夏の強い陽光が照り付け、街路樹からも蝉の声が盛んに聞こえてきます。風鈴の音が微かに聞こえてくるので辿ると、立て葦簀(よしず)の和菓子屋さんがありました。お店に入ると僅かな席があります。ウォーキング疲れもあり、少し休むことにしました。陳列台には涼しそうな和菓子が沢山並んでいます。珍しい和菓子もありますが、注文したのは定番の「冷やし善哉」。自然木を活かしたテーブルにゆっくり腰を掛けますと、先ほどの風鈴が、立て葦簀から吹き込む風に揺られていっそう涼しげに鳴っています。空調設備もないお店なのに、やけに涼しいのです。冷たくて甘ーい善哉を食べているうち、古来からこうして暑い夏を凌ぎ、楽しんできた我が祖先達に思わず思いを馳せました。帰りがけには紫陽花を模した和菓子を手にするともう心も浮き浮きです。
