French lavender is in bloom at the entrance of a cafe that has been renovated from an old folk house. The lovely flower ears that reminds me of a bunny girl’s ears are impressive. 古民家を改装したカフェの入り口にフレンチラベンダーが咲いています。バニーガールの耳を想わせる愛らしい花穂が印象的です。花穂はボール状にまとまり、全体的に優しい雰囲気が漂っています。 イングリッシュラベンダーと比べると、香りはやや落ちますが、甘い香りを放ち、店先から流れてくるコーヒーの香りがうまく溶け合って、自ずとお店に誘います。

夕方、近くのお寺に立ち寄ると、境内の片隅に見事な山吹が花を咲かせています。その山吹色と葉の緑が夕陽に映えていっそう鮮やかです。折しも暮れ六つの鐘が境内に鳴り渡り、思わず、今日の無事息災に感謝して、夕陽に手を合わせました。

紀州和歌山県岩出市にある名刹根来寺の桜が舞い始めました。 境内の聖天池にも散った桜がいちめんに広がり、池の傍に立つ聖天堂(行者堂)が桜と共に水面に映っています。コロナウイルスの影響でお花見客は少ないですが、折節の変わる景色は今年も変わりません。

野道を歩いていると、草むらに野いちごの花が咲いていました。ふと思い出したのは昔のあの日。近所の子らと隠れん坊をしていて、隠れたのは草むら。背丈ほどの草むらをかき分けていると、目の前に真っ赤に熟した野イチゴの実が固まってあります。思わず二つ三つ口に頬ばると、酸っぱいのなんの。涙が出そうになったことを思い出しました。

桜が散り始める頃、今度は花水木が咲き始めます。花水木は、日本人が桜を愛でると同じ様に、アメリカ人が愛でる花です。日本における植栽は、1912年に当時の東京市長であった尾崎行雄がアメリカのワシントンD.C.へ桜(ソメイヨシノ)を贈っ際、1915年にその返礼として贈られたのが始まです。だから、花水木が日本に根付いてからまだ100年位の歴史しかありません。京都嵯峨野の二尊院には紅白の立派な花水木が植えられていますが、今では日本の至る所で見かけます。花水木の並木道も沢山あり、多くの人の心を癒します。

今日４月８日は「花祭り」の日です。仏教の開祖である釈迦の誕生日で、日本では宗派を問わずお祝いします。釈迦が生まれた時香水をかけて身を清めたことにちなみ、小さな釈迦像に甘茶をかけて祝う習慣があります。どの寺の境内にも春の花々が咲き乱れ、心安らかな一日になります。

ネモフィラは、森の妖精のように澄んだ青い花を持ち、春の花壇やコンテナ植えによく使用される人気の花です。 日本にはあちこちに大規模なネモフィラ公園もあり、大勢の人達が押し寄せているほどです。 一方、海棠(かいどう)は桜と同じく日本を代表する春の花ですが、その名前を知る人はほとんどいません。 海棠は、中国を代表する美人である楊貴妃に例えられるほど、高貴で美しい花です。
