3月6日（金曜日）～15日（日曜日）に開催を予定されていた「京都・東山路-2020」も新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大防止のため、開催が中止されました。

2003年から始まったこの行事は、毎年3月上旬から中旬にかけて開催され、今では、期間中に訪れる観光客が100万人にも及ぶそうです。

東山山麓を、北は青蓮院から、知恩院、円山公園、八坂神社、大雲院祇園閣、高台寺、ねねの道、一年坂、二年坂、三年坂と、南の清水寺に至る、およそ４.６kmの小路に2400基の行灯を点し、夜の京都を散策する早春の観光一大イベントです。

今年は残念なことです。

Amateur musicians come together to the café which the white storehouse was renovated. They play musics and sing songs on their favorite instruments there. Other visitors sing together, clapp and give whistles. It’s good to have a day in the spring like this too.

最近、古民家や蔵を利用したり、改装して民泊や様々なお店を開く取り組みが盛んです。新しい時代には新しい環境も大切ですが、こうした伝統的な環境も心を和ませます。写真のカフェは土蔵を改装したもので、主に中高年のアマチュア・ミュージシャンが思い思いの楽器を担いで持ち寄り、十八番(おはこ)の楽曲を披露し合います。居合わせたお客もそれに合わせて歌ったり手拍子したり、口笛が飛びます。

元々は「縁紅弁慶草」または「花月」と呼ばれていました。英名の「Dollar Plant」または「Money Tree」にヒントを得た日本の園芸業者が「金のなる木」と名付け、５円玉を付けたりして売り出しところ、縁起がいい植物だと言うことで瞬く間にその名が知れ渡り、今では正式名になっています。多肉植物でサボテンの一種だと思っている人もいます。その名とは関係なしに、春先の今頃、可憐な花を咲かせます。

When I smell the sweet aroma of acacia, the memories of my youth is always revived. Singing at the café “When the rain of Acacia stops”, the student activists movement on TV, and the various events involved, all of them are now bittersweet memories.

アカシアの花が満開です。辺りに甘い香りが漂っています。この花を見、匂いを嗅ぐと決まって思い出すのが「アカシアの雨がやむとき」です。西田佐知子が歌ったこの歌は1960年代を代表する歌で、安保闘争で挫折した学生達が多く大企業に組み込まれ、仕事が終わって駆け付けたのが「歌声喫茶」、そこで必ずリクエストされた歌です。ハスキーな声でアンニュイな歌声が多くのそうした若者の心を捉えました。
