At 6:30 every morning, a nearby temple hears a bell that tells the time. This bell not only tells the time, but also encourages us, “Let’s do our best all day today!” In the past, these temple bells were everywhere in Japan, but now they are only found in a limited number of towns and villages. Some municipalities sound chimes instead, but I sti prefer temple bells.

毎朝6時30分に、近くの寺院から時刻を知らせる鐘の音が聞こえてきます。 この鐘は時刻を告げるだけでなく、「今日一日頑張ろう！」と励ましているように思えます。 昔、これらの鐘は日本全国至る所にありましたが、今では限られた町や村でしかありません。 代わりにチャイムを鳴らす自治体もありますが、私はやはり寺院の鐘を好みます。

桜が満開です。桜は薔薇科の植物ですが、上から見るとその通りで、バラが咲いているようにみえます。

タケノコの季節がやってきました。 タケノコ料理と言えば、炊き込みご飯とタケノコの煮物があります。 最近、竹の子料理は世界的にもちょっとしたブームで、特に中東のドバイではとても人気があるそうです。 健康食品への世界的な関心の中で、タケノコ料理はカロリーが低く、しかも美味しいですからなおさらです。

The Takase River, which flows through Yao City, connects the two major rivers of Osaka, the Yamato River and the Yodo River. 八尾市を流れる高瀬川は、大阪の二大河川である大和川と淀川を結んでいます。 もともとは淀川の支流でしたが、度重なる水害を避ける為、治水工事により淀川と切り離され、現在は高瀬川と改称されています。 現在の高瀬川は、大和川時代の面影はなく、細い疏水になっています。 川沿いは桜並木になっていて今頃は沢山の花見客で賑わうのですが、今年はコロナウイルスの影響で、来場者もちらほらです。

A fresh young cherry tree has bloomed on the old cherry tree. It is mysterious where the vitality to make such an old tree bloom such a beautiful flower is hidden. 老木に今年もみずみずしく若い桜が咲きました。こんな老木にこんなにも美しい花を咲かせる活力が隠されているのは不思議です。 しかし、この若い桜も一週間もたてばやがて散ってしまいます。 一瞬の命と永遠の命を目の前にして、深く考えさせられます。

The paper(western paper) we usually use is made mainly from softwood or hardwood trunks (pulp). However, Japanese paper(washi) is made from wood bark. When traversing the rocky gardens , Tsutaba-unran are blooming cute flowers. They are usually flowers that bloom in summer, but may have been deceived on a warm spring sunshine. I am fascinated by the flowers and forget the fear of traverse for a while.

岩場をトラバースしていると岩間に可愛いツタバウンランが咲いていました。ツタバウンランは普通は夏場の花ですが、余りにも暑い日差しに間違ったのか、まだ桜も咲ききっていないこんな時期に咲いたのでしょう。恐怖にこわばっていた身も心も一瞬にしてほぐれました。

The willows along the Kamogawa River in Kyoto have begun to sprout. The cool of the wind blowing on the river has become a pleasant season. The willows Yanagi also are swaying comfortably according to the breeze.

京都の中心部を南北に流れる鴨川は京都を代表する景観の一部です。四季折々に合わせた光景が繰り広げられます。春の初め、涼しさも心地よくなった春風に優しく揺れる柳、その簾を通して見える京都もまたひとつの風物です。
