“Gion” is a spot where you can enjoy the most Kyoto atmosphere in Kyoto. Not only tourist attractions such as temples and shrines, but also strolling in the alleys and back alleys, you can enjoy the Kyoto atmosphere. 3月6日（金曜日）～15日（日曜日）に開催を予定されていた「京都・東山路-2020」も新型コロナウイルス感染症拡大防止のため、開催が中止されました。

2003年から始まったこの行事は、毎年3月上旬から中旬にかけて開催され、今では、期間中に訪れる観光客が100万人にも及ぶそうです。

東山山麓を、北は青蓮院から、知恩院、円山公園、八坂神社、大雲院祇園閣、高台寺、ねねの道、一年坂、二年坂、三年坂と、南の清水寺に至る、およそ４.６kmの小路に2400基の行灯を点し、夜の京都を散策する早春の観光一大イベントです。
