This year’s plum fountain has a lot of momentum.  It’s because it’s survived an unprecedentedly harsh winter.  Not limited to plums.  This is true for all living things.  It is said that if you step on the wheat on a frosty day, you will get a lot of harvest and the best taste of wheat.  It is the same as Fuki-no-tou (butterbur sprout) melting the snow and sprout, and Yukiwarisou (hepatica ) breaking the snow and blooming.  This year’s cherry blossoms are deeply dormant in the midwinter and awaken a little late, so they must be able to bloom unprecedentedly splendid flowers.  You will also receive a letter from various places about Yamayaki.  It ignites the sleeping land and awakens it, and insects also crawl out of the warm land.  This is Keichitsu (the day around March 6, when insects appear from their holes in the earth).  It’s a wonderful season when everything comes back to life.

今年の梅の大噴水は勢いがあります。例年になく厳しい冬をくぐり抜けたからです。梅に限りません。生きとし生けるもの全ての生物に言える事です。新芽どき、霜が降りた日に麦踏みをすると、収穫も多く、味も一番の麦ができるそうです。蕗の薹が雪を解かして新芽を出し、雪割草が雪を掻き割け花開くのも同じです。今年の桜は、厳冬期の休眠も深く、目覚めも少し遅かったので、今までにない立派な花を咲かせるに違いありません。各地から山焼きの便りも届きます。眠れる大地に火を着けて目覚めさせ、暖まった大地からは虫たちも這い出してきます。啓蟄(けいちつ)です。何もかもが命を噴き返す素晴らしい季節です。
