Hina Matsuri (the Doll’s Festival) is approaching.  Convenience stores, supermarkets, and department stores are lined with Hinamatsuri-related products.  As for sweets, there are traditional Kyoto sweets, but the sweets that are popular now are the mainstream, and it is an on-parade of sweets with elaborate taste.  When I stop by the 100-yen shop in the corner of the supermarket, I find a lot of Hinamatsuri-related products here as well.  One of the things I noticed was a pair of Hina dolls.  It’s a pair of emperor and empress dolls. Just looking at it warms my heart.  I can’t tell the difference between a 100-yen doll and a doll that costs hundreds of thousands of yen. Well, well, don’t twist your mind so much. I was eager to soothe my anger because the dolls that cost hundreds of thousands of yen are worth the dolls.

雛祭りが近づいてきました。コンビニやスーパー、百貨店には雛祭り関連の商品が所狭しと並んでいます。お菓子は、伝統的な京菓子もありますが、今流行りのスイーツが主流、趣向を凝らしたスイーツのオンパレードです。スーパーの一角にある100円ショップに寄ってみますと、ここも雛祭り関連の商品がいっぱい。その中で目に付いたのが一対の雛人形。可愛いお内裏様とお雛様がちょこんと並んでいます。思わずほっこりです。これが100円と思うと、あの何十万円もする雛人形はなんだと思えるくらいです。まあまあ、そうひねくらないで、何十万円もするお雛様にはお雛様の値打ちがあるんだからと心鎮めるのに躍起でした。
