Looking at the smartphone calendar, today is “Mountain Day”, which is a national holiday.  When I looked it up, I found that this year’s “Mountain Day” was August 8th.  The Tokyo Olympics scheduled to be held in 2020 have been postponed to this year, and it was assumed that “Mountain Day” will move to August 9, the day after the Olympic closing ceremony, but this day is “Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Day”. Therefore, it was decided to move it to August 8th (Sunday), the day of the Olympic closing ceremony, and make the 9th a transfer holiday.  By the way, July 22nd and 23rd were also transfer holidays.  At any rate, this year, everything is swayed by the Tokyo Olympics, and the whole of Japan is in turmoil, just like the turmoil caused by the spread of coronavirus infection.  Furthermore, the Para-Olympic Games to be held in September are just around the corner, so what will happen in the future?  There is no end to worry.

スマホのカレンダーを見たら今日は「山の日」で祭日です。あれっと思って調べてみたら、今年の「山の日」は８月８日だったのですね。2020年開催予定の東京オリンピックが今年に延期されて、「山の日」は閉会式の翌日の８月９日に移動することを想定されましたが、この日が「長崎原爆の日」であるため、閉会式当日の8月8日（日曜日）に移動させ、9日は振替休日とすることになったそうです。そう言えば、７月の22日、23日も振替祝日でしたね。兎も角、今年は、コロナウイルス感染の拡大による混乱に輪を掛けるように、東京オリンピックに何もかもが振り回されて日本中が大混乱です。さらにまだ９月開催のパラオリンピックが控えていますから、これから先どうなりますことやら。心配の種は尽きません。

河口湖畔に咲くオニユリが一段と赤く咲いています。オニユリは普通浅黒い赤色でそばかすの様な黒い斑点がありますが、富士山を見上げるオニユリは皆んな真っ赤で、恥じらいでいる様にさえ見えます。冠雪もすっかり消え、武士の風格さえ漂う富士山は今夏を満喫する様に堂々とたたずんでいます。お盆も過ぎて秋の彼岸が近付く頃には初冠雪を見ることになります。春夏秋冬、一年を巡る富士と周りの景色は大きなカレンダーです。

It has been 76 years since the atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki at 11:02 am on August 9, 1945.  It is said that more than 70,000 people died in an instant, and the name of 189,163 people is listed in the A-bomb death list with the names of 3202 people including the survivors who died in the past year.  However, although the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons, which bans the development, manufacture, and use of nuclear weapons came into effect in January this year, nuclear-weapon states and countries under the nuclear umbrella, such as Japan, have not participated.  Is this all right?  The 21st century is truly when Japan comes in.  No country in Japan can actively participate in the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons and take leadership toward the realization of a world free of nuclear weapons.  Japan, which has nurtured a high level of culture and a spirit of harmony for over 2000 years, should be the leader of 21st century society in every sense.

1945年8月9日午前11時2分、長崎に原爆が投下されて今日で76年になります。一瞬にして7万人以上が死亡したとされ、この1年に亡くなった被爆者など3202人の名前が書き加えられた原爆死没者名簿には18万9163人の名前が記載されています。しかし、今年1月に核兵器の開発や製造、使用などを禁じる核兵器禁止条約が発効しましたが、核保有国や日本など核の傘のもとにある国は参加していません。これでいいのでしょうか。21世紀こそ日本の出番です。核兵器禁止条約に積極的に参加し、核兵器のない世界の実現に向けてリーダーシップを発揮できる国は日本においてありません。2000年以上に渡って高度な文化と和の心を育んできた日本こそが、あらゆる意味で21世紀社会のリーダーであるべきです。

The sea and mountains are at their peak this summer just now. Usually more people are rushing in, but this year it’s a quiet situation.  Even so, I can hear the cheers of the sea bathers, which can only be heard in the summer.  The pure white summer clouds over the azure sea, the sound of the waves crashing, the bright red Hamanasu flowers blooming on the sandy beach a little away, these are the same summer landscapes as usual.  What is the bliss I feel when I am sucked into this landscape where eternity and moments intersect?  The way of coming is long, and the end is short. The bliss that I feel in my destiny may be God’s guidance.

夏真っ盛りの海や山。いつもならもっと多くの人達が押し寄せているのでしょうが、今年はどことも閑散とした状況です。それでも夏にしか聞こえて来ない海水浴客達の歓声が聞こえてきます。紺碧の海の上に広がる真っ白な夏雲、打ち寄せる波の音、少し離れた砂浜に咲く真っ赤なハマナスの花、これだけはいつもと変わらない夏の風景です。永遠と刹那が交錯したこの風景に吸い込まれて行く時に感じる至福はいったいなんだろう。来し方は長く、行く末は短い我が運命に感じる至福こそが神の導きかもしれません。

広島に原子爆弾が投下されて７１年目の朝を迎えました。昨日に続き今日も３５°C超える猛暑日になるそうです。８時15分テレビに映し出された広島の平和公園で黙祷を捧げる人々と共に黙祷を捧げました。自然と涙が込み上げてきます。一方で、日本政府は核兵器禁止条約（TPNW）の批准はもとより、署名すらしておらず、その姿勢を批判する声も多いなか、菅首相がまたまた大失態。平和記念式典の挨拶がテレビの字幕で流れていましたが、突然流れなくなりました。脈絡の繋がらない内容だったので不思議に思っていたら、案の定、事前に用意した原稿の一部を読み飛ばしたとのこと。コロナ対策の一連の対応といい、すべてがこの調子で、自分の心からの発言ではないから、読み間違えても、読み飛ばしても気付かない。「核なき世界へ…」といくら訴えても、日本の矛盾をさらに露呈しただけの挨拶で、厳粛な式典に汚点を残しただけになりました。

The shirasu that has just been landed this morning is spread on the drying plate and dried in the sun.  There is a unique scent of Shirasu, including the scent of the tide.  It is a scene unique to a fishing village in midsummer.  Shirasu is actually a general term for fry such as sardines, sweetfish, herring, eels, and sand lances, but the ones that are currently dried are the fry of anchovy.  Freshly caught “raw shirasu” is really delicious and rarely eaten.  At “Road Station” near the fishing village, you can see a bowl of rice topped with “Kamaage Shirasu”, which is made by boiling Shirasu in a large amount of hot water to reduce the water content from 75% to 88%.  “Shirasu-boshi” is a product that has been further dried to a moisture content of 65% to 72%, and “Chirimenjako” has a moisture content of 35% to 50%.  The name comes from the fact that the appearance of a small shirasu spread flat and dried as shown in the photo looks like a silk fabric with fine wrinkles spread out.

今朝水揚げしたばかりのシラスを干し板いちめんに広げて天日干しです。辺りには潮の香りを含んだシラス独特の香りが漂っています。真夏の漁村ならではの光景です。シラスとは実はイワシ、アユ、ニシン、ウナギ、イカナゴなどの稚魚の総称ですが、今干しているのはカタクチイワシの稚魚です。獲りたての「生シラス」は実に美味しく、滅多に食べることはできません。漁村近くの道の駅などでは、ご飯の上に「釜揚げシラス」を乗せた丼物を見かけますが、これは大量のお湯でシラスを茹でて、水分を75％から88％にしたものです。これをさらに干して水分率を65％から72％にしたものが「シラス干し」、さらに乾燥させて、水分率を35％から50％の水分率にしたものが「チリメンジャコ」です。写真のように小さなシラスを平らに広げて干した様子が、細かなしわをもつ絹織物のちりめんを広げたように見えることからこの名前がつきました。

It has been about 60 years since I first visited Kamikochi.  It was a mecca for mountaineering, and although it was quite crowded in the summer, most of them were mountaineers.  From Kappa Bridge to Tokusawaen via Myojin Pond. Tokusawaen is the entrance to Mt. Chogatake and Mt. Jonen, and its ridge is a great place to see the Hotaka mountains range from Mt. Yarigatake.  If looking sideways at the Azusa River from Tokusawaen and follow Yokoo Sanso, we will head to Mt. Yarigatake and Mt. Okuhotaka.  Occasionally I took a break on the banks of the Azusa River, and at that time I always dissolved the powdered juice I brought with me into the water of the Azusa River and drank it.  The juice is as cold as ice water, and its deliciousness is still unforgettable.  I traversed from Mt. Yari to Mt. Okuhotaka, and then went down from Mt. Okuhotaka to Karasawa Hut at a stretch, but I still remember the frustration that I couldn’t reach even if I went down and went down. The old painter I met at Kappa Bridge must be painting with the same feeling.  I enjoyed cold canned coffee got from him, instead of powdered juice.

上高地を初めて訪れてからもう６０年くらいになります。登山のメッカといった場所で、夏は当時も結構賑わっていましたが、ほとんどが登山客でした。河童橋から明神池を経て徳沢園へ。徳沢園は蝶ヶ岳、さらに常念岳への登り口で、その尾根筋は槍ヶ岳から穂高連峰が眺望できる絶好の場所です。徳沢園から梓川を横に見て横尾山荘へと辿れば、槍ヶ岳や奥穂高岳へと向かうことになります。時折り梓川のほとりで休憩し、その時は必ず、持参した粉ジュースを梓川の水に溶かし飲みました。そのジュースはまるで氷水の様に冷たく、未だにその美味しさが忘れられません。槍ヶ岳から奥穂高岳を縦走し、奥穂高岳からは下の涸沢小屋までの、下りても下りてもたどり着かないもどかしさもしっかり記憶に残っています。河童橋の袂で出会った老画家も同じ思いで絵を描いているに違いありません。粉ジュースではなく、冷たい缶コーヒーをご馳走になりました。

Only this area is really cool and so Oniyurithe is fine.  The other day, it recorded 37.8 ℃ in Asahikawa, Hokkaido.  The lowest temperature in the history of observation in Japan is -41.0 ℃, which was also observed in Asahikawa City, so it is surprising that the difference between the lowest temperature and the highest temperature is as much as 78.8 ℃.  Also, the typhoon that landed for the first time this year is in Ibaraki prefecture, and the weather in Japan has changed from west to east until now, but recently it often changes from the east, so the weather environment in Japan has changed completely.  If the weather environment changes, the growing environment of animals and plants will change, and the Saijiki(a haiku poet’s compendium of seasonal terms) will have to change.  It is also the reason why haiku without seasonal words is popular.

猛暑日、熱帯夜を掻い潜って鬼百合が元気に花を開かせています。この辺りだけがやけに涼しく、鬼百合が元気なのもわかります。先日も北海道旭川市で37.8℃を記録したそうです。日本の観測史上の最低気温も旭川市で観測された-41.0℃ですから、最低気温と最高気温の差が78.8℃もある訳ですから驚きです。また今年初上陸した台風は上陸地は茨城県だし、日本の天気は西から東にと変化するのが今まででしたが、最近は東から変わることもしばしばという事ですから、日本の気象環境はすっかり変わりました。気象環境が変われば動植物の成育環境も変わり、俳句の歳時記も変えざるえません。季語無しの俳句が流行する由縁でもあります。

On the way home after taking a footbath at the hot spring, I dropped in a cafe in an old folk house surrounded by trees.   Bamboo blinds hang in front of a large table on the engawa(a Japanese loggia), and they sway.  Nanbu iron wind chimes and glass wind chimes blend together to create a cool feeling.  I can hear the chirping of Higurashi(Tanna japonensis) from a distance mixed with the chirping of Aburazemi(brown cicada).  The ordered tokoroten is placed on the table, and the scent of sweet and sour sauce has a slight scent of seaweed.  Next and next table, young female customers are having a good time talking.  Time goes by quietly, paying attention to the sound of tokoroten.

温泉で足湯をしての帰り道、木々に囲まれた古民家のカフェに立ち寄りました。縁側にしつらえた大きなテーブルの前にはすだれが掛かり、ゆーラリゆーラリー揺れています。南部鉄の風鈴とガラスの風鈴がうまい具合に溶け合っていっそうの涼しらしさを醸し出しています。アブラゼミの鳴き声に混じって遠くからヒグラシの鳴き声が聞こえてきます。注文したトコロテンがテーブルに置かれ、甘酢の香りに海藻の香りがわずかに匂います。隣りの隣りには若い女性客が楽しそうに話し合っています。トコロテンをすする音に気を付けながら、静かに時が流れていきます。
